Police Staff Council has reached a pay award agreement for police staff for the 2025-26 financial year, backdated to 1 September.
Police staff in England and Wales, who are also members of trade union Unison, have voted by an overwhelming majority to accept the pay offer, with nearly half of those who were eligible to vote in the ballot taking part. Staff who are members of the unions Unite and GMB also voted to accept the offer.
As part of the agreed pay award, employees will see a 4.2% pay rise on all pay points, with the lowest band rising from £23,748 to £24,747, and the highest increasing from £58,455 to £60,912.
There will also be a 4.2% increase in standby allowance from £36.13 to £37.65 and a £10 increase in the overnight away from home allowance from £50 to £60.
In addition, there will also be a harmonisation of the three existing essential car user engine-size allowance rates to a single rate of £1,239, regardless of engine size, using the allowances currently detailed for vehicles 1200-1450 cc.
The Local Government Association stated that it hopes police forces will implement the salary increase as soon as possible.
David Algie, Police Staff Council employers side secretariat at Local Government Association, said: “The trade union side, Unison, Unite and GMB, undertook a consultative ballot of their members on the offer during October. We have been notified that all three unions have now accepted the offer and therefore we can confirm a pay agreement for 2025.
“Any pay points above point 45 that have been constructed in accordance with the Police Staff Council Handbook (Part Three) should also be increased by 4.2% from 1 September. For payroll purposes, the pay increases on all pay points are rounded up and divisible by three in the Police Staff Council Pay Spine.”
