Greater London Authority has become a living hours accredited employer to combine the security of fair pay with a regular and reliable wage.

The employer has committed to provide its employees with at least 16 hours work a week, unless otherwise requested, a minimum of four weeks’ notice for every shift and guaranteed payment if shifts are cancelled within this period, as well as a contract that accurately reflects hours worked.

Greater London Authority employees will also be paid at or above the London living wage, which is currently set at £13.15 per hour.

Launched by the Living Wage Foundation, the living hours scheme tackles insecure work and allows employers to take further steps to protect staff from the cost-of-living crisis.

Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, said: “I am especially proud to announce that the Greater London Authority is taking it to the next level as a living hours employer. This means that not only are people paid at or above the London living wage, but they have at least 16 hours of work each week if they want, and more notice about the shifts they work.

“No one who goes out to work every day should have to endure the indignity of poverty. Nor should they have to worry about choosing between putting food on the table, heating their homes or clothing their children. Championing this will always be a cornerstone of my effort to build a better London for everyone; a city that is fairer, more affordable and more prosperous for all.”
