Construction firm Galliford Try has introduced a one-off payment for around 1,800 of its members of staff, in order to increase support in the face of the rising costs of living.
The business stated that almost half its 3,300-strong employee base will receive individual payments of up to £750. This is in addition to an overall pay rise awarded earlier this year, in order to bring pay in line with the real living wage rate, which is currently £9.90 outside of London and £11.05 for those based in the capital.
Additionally, the group has increased its training sessions, tools and resources for financial planning and wellbeing, as part of its Be Well programme.
Bill Hocking, chief executive of Galliford Try, said: “We recognise that the rising cost of living is challenging many households across the UK and, as a people-orientated, values-driven organisation we are committed to supporting our people through a variety of means. This is just the latest step of many, offering added support where we can make a difference.”
Galliford Try has followed in the footsteps of broadcaster and telecommunications business Sky, which awarded 70% of its UK and Ireland workforce £1,000 - or the equivalent in Euros - to help ease financial pressures. In addition, pension services provider Cartwright Group awarded its staff a one-off £1,000 support payment last month, and West Brom Building Society gave 430 of its employees a one-off £1,200.
