Texas-based supermarket chain Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC) has awarded employees a one-time bonus to reward them for their efforts during the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
On 20 March 2020, the organisation's 14,000 employees received a one-time bonus equivalent to up to half a week’s pay.
Additionally, BGC staff have been given a temporary pay increase of $1 (£0.84) per hour, effective from 24 March until 1 May 2020.
Trent Brookshire, chief operating officer at BGC, said: “We want to show our appreciation for the incredible hard work and dedication of our employees supporting each other, our neighbours and communities during these unprecedented times.
“As our stores are an essential destination for our communities, it’s been amazing to witness our team pull together to serve our customers like never before. We believe it is the right thing to do to give back to our partners as they have demonstrated grit, determination, commitment and care for our guests and communities over the past few weeks.
“We cannot thank our employees enough for their determination, commitment and care for our customers. We are trying to do everything we can to give back as a reflection of gratitude for what they are doing every day.
“Our incredibly dedicated retail and logistics employees are going above and beyond in meeting our customers’ needs. As an essential business for our communities, we will continue to keep our stores open and keep our operations moving to get products on the shelves.”
