Chichester-based law firm Kenny Solicitors has introduced the Chichester Gift Card for employee reward that positively impacts its local community.
The gift card, which is part of the Town and City Gift Cards range from global gift card specialist Miconex, can spend it at specific registered local businesses. The law firm’s 52 employees will receive it on special occasions throughout the year.
The card comes under the government’s trivial benefits allowance that allows organisations to award employees with multiple small non-cash gifts of up to £50 each, multiple times each year, tax-free, without reporting to HM Revenue and Customs. These cannot be rewards for performance, part of a salary sacrifice arrangements or a contractual benefit.
Louise Kenny, co-founder of Kenny Solicitors, said: “As a family-owned business, and as a person who has lived and worked in Chichester all my life, I’m a passionate supporter of the city. Once we knew about our local gift card, we realised it was a better choice for our local economy, ring-fencing our reward spend into our city, unlike national cards where the benefit leaves the area.
“We were confident that it offered enough choice for our team. We were looking for ease of use, and being a prepaid Mastercard available as a physical or digital card, it fit the bill. We opted for digital cards because the team is not all based in the same office, allowing us to send the card digitally by email to staff.
“My advice for other organisations considering supporting local would be to consider the impact of every decision, including those around reward and incentives. An organisation should be a force for good for their local community, and choosing local gift cards where reward and incentive spend benefits the local community should be a no-brainer for any organisation.”
