Online retailer Amazon will increase starting pay for its UK frontline operations employees from 28 September.
Its minimum starting pay will rise by 5.9% to £14.30 and by 5.5% to £15.30 per hour, depending on location. Frontline operations employees’ annual salaries will now start at a minimum of £29,744 per annum, rising to £31, 824 in some locations.
Amazon’s minimum starting pay has now risen by 80p per hour in the past year, and represents a 43% rise since 2022. The pay rise will benefit tens of thousands of its UK frontline operations staff.
This also represents a significant investment in Amazon’s UK workforce across all of its full-time, part-time, temporary, and seasonal roles.
John Boumphrey, UK country manager at Amazon, said: “Our UK frontline employees are essential to our success, which is why we’re proud to increase our minimum starting wage to £29,744 a year.
“Beyond this competitive wage, we offer benefits from day one and meaningful career development opportunities for all our employees. This combination of competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and growth potential makes Amazon an attractive place to work, whether someone is starting their first job, taking on a seasonal role, or looking to build a long-term career.”
Amazon offers a comprehensive benefits package worth more than £700 annually, which includes private medical insurance, life insurance, income protection, subsidised meals, an employee discount, and pension plan. It also invests in processes and systems designed to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all employees and provides career development through its Career Choice programme, which funds skills development through courses up to £3,000 per year.
