Doug Monro, co-founder at Adzuna, said: “Salary growth and record high employment show the jobs market is moving in the right direction, but the headline figures mask an uneven picture. Growing areas like the creative industries are a safe salary bet, with wages on their way up. Skills shortages are forcing up salaries in areas like teaching and law, making these attractive options too.

“But sectors like construction are still mired in political uncertainty and the pay on offer in these positions is much lower than a year ago. This makes it all the more important for jobseekers entering the market or looking to move role to do their industry research, or risk pay packet disappointment.”
