O2 has offered its 2,500 employees based at its Slough headquarters the opportunity to participate in a flexible working pilot.

The initiative is being trialed ahead of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to establish how employees can work remotely to avoid the expected operating, travel and business challenges of the event.

O2 intends to publish the results of the pilot and assist other organisations ahead of the summer to implement contingency plans.

The flexible working day, held on 8 February, will also play a part in O2’s sustainability plans in which it pledges to help over 125,000 employees work flexibly, and collectively save over 500,000 miles of travel and over 160,000 thousand tonnes of carbon emissions.

O2 has increased the adoption of flexible working practices since October 2010.
