Insurance and reinsurance firm MS Amlin has introduced a paid carer’s leave policy to support its employees.
Under the policy, all employees will be entitled to up to five days' paid leave a year to care for a spouse, civil partner, child, parent, another dependent household member or a neighbour with a physical or mental illness, injury, a registered disability, or elderly care needs. The leave can be taken flexibly as individual or consecutive full or half days.
MS Amlin designed the policy to support employees who are juggling caring responsibilities alongside work commitments. It goes beyond the Carer’s Leave Act, introduced in April, which grants staff the statutory right to one week of unpaid leave a year for caring responsibilities.
The benefit will sit alongside MS Amlin’s other life-stage policies, which include six months of fully paid parental leave for all employees, paid fertility leave, pregnancy loss support, and diagnosis for menopause and perimenopause.
Gemma Lines, chief people officer at MS Amlin, said: “As we live longer and family structures change, more of us will find ourselves responsible for caring for dependents. Juggling caring duties with a full or part-time job can be overwhelming, and we believe people should not feel forced to choose between their careers and caring responsibilities. By introducing paid carer’s leave, we aim to alleviate some of the strain on working carers, and foster an inclusive working environment that supports people at all life stages.”
MS Amlin’s other core benefits include a pension contribution of up to 13%, a £1,000 flexible cash fund, life assurance of 10-times salary, private medical care, health screening, and an employee assistance programme.
