Global law firm Dechert has put in place recognition initiatives across its whole business to support employees during the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
The organisation launched 'A Day to Thrive' scheme, which gives employees an extra day of annual leave this year to recognise everyone for their efforts during this challenging time.
With the vast majority of the business working remotely, the organisation has continued to recognise and acknowledge employees during this time with e-gratitude cards awarded by managers.
Alison Bernard, chief talent and human resources officer at Dechert, says: “We have always focused on the physical, mental, emotional and financial wellbeing of our people, and in these extraordinarily challenging times, we have innovated to find new and creative ways to help and support our community.
"Above and beyond our normal employee benefits, we’ve introduced new initiatives to help all our people to thrive in these unprecedented circumstances.”
The gratitude cards that have been introduced during the pandemic are in addition to the existing recognition schemes that Dechert already had in place, which includes the 'Gratitude Week'. Launched in 2019, this annual event shares leadership messages, videos and employee stories to understand the true value of employee recognition and motivation.
Dechert launched Gratitude Week to recognise all employees for their hard work, no-one is singled out for individual achievements. Each employee receives a personalised e-card to say thank you for their work.
Jessica Vanto, global head of professional development at Dechert, says: “Giving thanks is a powerful thing. When someone says ‘thank you’ to you, it can make your day, but researchers have found that giving thanks is just as important as receiving them: your mood lifts, you feel more optimistic, your day is just better.
“And while the week is over, extra cards are still available for everyone to access, and they’re being used.”
To better understand what the best way to recognise employees would be, Dechert has a suggestions box which encourages employees to submit direct feedback and suggestions about employee experience across the organisation. During the Coronavirus pandemic, this feedback system has helped to encourage more of a regular informal recognition culture.
