Under half (49%) of employer respondents do not have a formal reward or recognition programme in place, according to research by Perkbox.
Its survey of 1,600 UK employers also found that 49% of respondents do not offer their employees the option to work from home.
The research also found:
- 52% of respondents state that the average time employees stay at their organisation is between one and five years.
- 78% of respondents do not have any fun areas or breakout spaces in their working environment.
- 15% of respondents feel they have a fun, creative working culture at their organisation, and 17% believe their organisation is emerging new working cultures.
- 69% of respondents think they have a traditional working culture at their organisation.
Chieu Cao (pictured), co-founder and chief executive officer at Perkbox, said: “The research tells me employers are struggling to understand the difference between traditional and younger employees, the dangers of a uniform culture and the need for a dynamic one. Demotivation, poor employee engagement, high absenteeism and low staff retention are all key factors behind the UK’s poor ranking in global productivity.
“Innovation is not as daunting as it sounds. It comes from creating autonomy in a collaborative environment, from motivating and rewarding initiative. That’s often all it takes to allow people’s individuality and authenticity to shine.”
