Jamaican restaurant Levi Roots Caribbean Smokehouse has been accredited as a living wage employer.
The restaurant will pay both permanent employees and third-party contractors who work at its Westfield Stratford City store the London living wage, which currently stands at £9.75 an hour.
The living wage is a voluntary hourly rate that is independently set and calculated to reflect the minimum amount employees should be paid to cover the basic costs of living. The living wage for the UK is set at £8.45 an hour, and £9.75 an hour for London-based employees.
Levi Roots, founder of Levi Roots Caribbean Smokehouse, said: “Our business model for Levi Roots Caribbean Smokehouse was always to make sure that every employee is paid at least the real London living wage. It’s fabulous that this has been publicly recognised by our living wage employer accreditation, just in time for our first birthday celebrations.”
