Retail employer B&M has announced that it will close on 1 January to support over 28,000 of its employees by giving them more time to spend with their loved ones.
The employer will close its 600 stores to give employees a day to rest and recover over the festive break. British retail stores Wickes and Marks and Spencer (M&S) have additionally planned to close operations and give its employees time off during the Christmas break.
In April, B&M awarded employees with a 10% pay increase to recognise them for their hard work during the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
A spokesperson at B&M said: “We recognise how hard our staff have worked throughout some challenging times and to give them a well-deserved rest, we have made the decision to close all B&M stores on New Year’s Day, 1 January 2021, so that employees can spend time with their loved ones.”
