Sanofi-Aventis has switched group income protection (GIP) providers from Legal and General to Generali.

The healthcare firm, which has 100,000 staff globally, said that it wanted a provider with a different, but strong, approach to customer service and claims management, which also met the needs of its multinational pooling scheme.

Sanofi-Aventis staff now also have access to the Best Doctors advisory service. The GIP policy insures two-thirds of employees' base salary, plus employer pension contributions. It insures an absent employee's pay until they recover or retire. Paul Craven, head of reward at Sanofi-Aventis, said: "We have a duty to support staff throughout their period of sickness or disability."
