Falkirk Council is introducing a home computing scheme in a bid to modernise public sector perks. The local authority predicts that 1,600 of its 7,000 staff will take part in the offering. HR adviser Lisa Harvey said: "There's [the perception] that the public sector might be a wee bit old fashioned. I think there are a lot of flexible benefits in the private sector and the public sector is saying 'so why can't we do this as well?'. In order to recruit and retain staff you've got to move on initiatives like this."
The council has also decided to bring in a childcare voucher scheme, in response to a survey that found that workers want more family friendly benefits.
