Media organisation Express Newspapers has agreed to offer a pay increase to staff, including a 2% pay rise for employees earning less than £60,000 a year.
Express Newspapers, which publishes titles such as the Daily Express, has agreed to offer a 2% pay increase for employees earning less than £60,000 a year, a £1,200 increase to staff earning above £60,000 a year, and a 2% pay rise for casual employees who work at shift rates up to and including £153.
The pay increases would be backdated to January 2017.
The offer follows a meeting with representatives from the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), the trade union for journalists, on Tuesday 21 February 2017.
The union had previously proposed a 4% pay increase for staff, which was rejected in December 2016.
Michelle Stanistreet, general secretary at the NUJ, said: “After eight years of pay freezes at Express Newspapers, this offer is a welcome result of our pay negotiations, and testament to the hard work put in by our [Father of the Union Chapel] Richard Palmer. Our chapel will discuss the offer when they meet and we hope this marks the start of an improvement in industrial relations at the group.”
Express Newspapers had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication.
