Motorway services operators Roadchef and Welcome Break have been shortlisted in the category Best motivation or recognition scheme at the Employee Benefits Awards 2023.
This award was created to recognise a successful motivation strategy that uses either incentives or motivational rewards to help drive employee performance, engagement or retention.

2022’s ceremony saw Nationwide Building Society win the top award as a result of its creation of a recognition proposition that reflected the culture of the organisation. It brought together four elements within its new Appreciate platform to create a single point of access for all employees, which included a refreshed and expanded e-card offering aligned to organisational values, anytime financial awards that can be sent by any permanent employee, long-service awards, and annual awards.
A Nationwide spokesperson said: “We utilised our own internal radio network to communicate our recognition scheme to employees, as our branch staff can be hard to reach and connect with. We used one of our external marketing poets used in our TV adverts to launch our recognition scheme during the pandemic. We not only used a poem to launch it but also offered any member of staff who was the most engaged with the platform the chance to get their own poem for a family member or friend.”
The 21st annual Employee Benefits Awards is the event of the year for the reward, benefits and HR industry, providing the opportunity to recognise and celebrate excellence through reward and benefits strategies.
The daytime event, which will be held at the Honourable Artillery Company, London on Friday 23 June, will include a drinks reception, three-course meal, entertainment and the chance to network with industry professionals. The after-party will feature live music, dodgems, a carousel and a big wheel in the venue’s private grounds.
