Sam Buckingham, HR director at Birds Eye will reveal how organisations can effectively communicate with their employees in light of the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic at the Employee Benefits Insights 2021 event.

The talk, one of a number being hosted as part of the EB online series, will be held on 17 March, at 14:30 and explore why building trust and confidence that the business "will do the right thing" and "truly listening when employees are experiencing more personal challenges" are key in supporting people to feel like they belong and have a voice.

Buckingham said individuals were looking to connect with workplaces that “have a sense of purpose and messages they feel personally connected to relayed by human beings” and will warn that, without this, attention could be easily lost.

“How leaders show up and how they make people feel when we communicate with our teams is an important part of a continued sense of connection to one another and to our business,” she said. “How each interacts both one to one and in our corporate communications really does helps teams to remain engaged.”

Buckingham has seen this approach work first hand in Birds Eye.

“Our sustainable engagement scores [employee survey] and the level of pride in our company has increased year on year despite the pandemic and the challenges this has brought in working remotely,” she added.“What I hope that people will take away from the session is that we can all make an impact. Many of the interventions we have put in place were already available to us and others have been very cost effective. Regardless the size of your organisation and budget available there are many resources available to support.”

The talk will form part of the Employee Benefits Insights 2021 line-up. The event will explore the latest trends, insights and solutions that provide effective and efficient reward strategies in a Coronavirus climate.

The CPD-accredited online series, which is sponsored by Unmind and Bright Horizons, is free to access and attendees can register here.
