Online retailer Asos has increased take-up of payroll giving by 30% after using a ‘winter wonderland’ theme to relaunch its scheme.

The event, held at the firm’s London office on 1 December, saw the office cafe decked out with candy canes and gingerbread houses.

Staff were invited to build a gingerbread house from a kit and then submit it to a judging panel, which included provider Workplace Giving UK.

Cressida Dimmock, corporate social responsibility co-ordinator at Asos, said: “It was a nice atmosphere, and staff enjoyed the competition aspect of who was going to have the best gingerbread house.”

The Workplace Giving UK team, dressed up as Hansel and Gretel, gave out candy canes. Asos’ 700 staff can give to a charity of their choice, including the Asos Foundation, and the relaunch event included stands from the Breast Cancer Campaign, British Heart Foundation and Retail Trust.

The firm’s Hemel Hempstead office staged a similar event and saw 26 staff join the giving scheme, while 27 London staff signed up.
