DHL Supply Chain is moving towards a share services model for HR that will make its administration of reward more efficient and cost effective.

The organisation, which is a division of Deutsche Post DHL, will set up a centralised HR team next door to its head office in Milton Keynes towards the end of this year. The change is still in its infancy and exact figures on the cost savings are not available.

David Whitfield, head of compensation and benefits, UK Ireland and Nordics, said the centralised service will allow the organisations to produce better communications materials for benefits; improve the quality of employee data; and increase the efficiency of HR, payroll and benefits systems. There are also plans to add self-service elements to its HR system.

HR business partners will be created to allow reward and HR professionals to do less administrative work and focus on what is happening in the wider business.

Whitfield said: “They will be much more involved in new business wins and retention, and really think about the five-year perspective of where we are going with the business rather than getting bogged down in the day job.”
