Conwy Borough Council has revised its employee recognition scheme and is looking to revamp its long-service awards.
The Welsh authority, which has 5,000 staff, has extended its recognition scheme to include more categories. These include the Customer service award, Colleague of the year award, Manager of the year award and a Special achievement award. The council has added an Innovation award and a Pride of Conwy award to reward staff who successfully represent the council outside the workplace.
Donna Roberts, total rewards officer, said: "We have made the categories a lot simpler to appeal to all staff. Last year we linked them to all our aims and objectives and it was a bit too corporate."
The winners will be presented with a certificate and trophy at the council's annual award ceremony in June.
The council is also planning to modernise its long-service awards by reducing the length of time before staff are recognised. Its current scheme provides a gift worth £200 after 25 years' service and £400 after 40 years. It is looking to replace the gift with vouchers to give employees more choice.
