Barclays has recorded its lowest monthly average CO2 emissions for its company car scheme.
This month, it has recorded a level of 155 grams of CO2 per kilometre.
The company has been measuring its drivers’ emissions since March 2005, and last December made changes to its company car policy by introducing financial incentives for those driving greener vehicles and increasing the choice of low-emission cars offered to staff. At this time, its average CO2 emissions level stood at 166 grams per kilometre.
Caroline Sandall, fleet manager, said: "We are performing. [Business need] drivers are limited to cars of 215 grams per kilometre or less, and anything that offers the driver 45 miles per gallon (MPG) or more, results in a lowered monthly cost."
Staff who select cars with higher MPG rates are liable for higher costs per month to run their vehicle.
The tax incentives for low-emission vehicles are also being spelt out to drivers to encourage a higher take up of green cars.
Barclays has a fleet of over 4,000 drivers, which can select vehicles from manufacturers such as Audi, BMW and Honda.
