The campaign against the government's decision to abolish tax relief on childcare vouchers has gathered pace with childcare providers lobbying politicians on the issue and a petition set up against the plans attracting more than 20,000 signatures.
In addition, a Facebook site dubbed 'Save childcare vouchers' has 410 members, while the petition against Labour's decision is one of the fastest growing petitions on the Number 10 website, where it is rated as the seventh most popular appeal.
And several comments condemning Labour's plans for childcare vouchers, which as they stand result in up to £1,195 in tax savings for a working parent, have been posted on Employee Benefits Forum.
Meanwhile, Simon Moore, managing director of Busy Bees Childcare Vouchers, is raising awareness of the campaign at the Tory Party conference this week, where he has met with Maria Miller, shadow minister for family and Tim Loughton, shadow minister for children.
Leading childcare voucher providers, including Accor Services UK, Computershare Vouchers Services, Grass Roots and Sodexo Pass, have called on the government to rethink its decision, arguing that the benefit is very popular with families and has allowed many women to return to work after the birth of a child.
