Northgate Information Solutions has added a range of ethical products to its benefits package, selecting providers according to their corporate social responsibility credentials.
It offers staff a range of ethical voluntary benefits including carbon offsetting, payroll and charitable giving, and the option to take time off to take part in local community work.
The IT company's 4,000 UK staff can also opt for an ethical pension fund, childcare vouchers provided by suppliers that donate to charity, a green company car and a cycle-to-work salary sacrifice scheme.
Tim Cleaver, group reward manager, says the perks were added as a result of feedback following a staff survey which was carried out before launching new benefits last year. "It was important to us to provide the choice for employees," he says. "It is not about making people do something, it is very much about individual choice." Since launching the scheme, charitable giving has had particularly good take-up.
The company also has a wider CSR programme that has been put in place to promote social and environmental improvement.
"CSR is an important focus for Northgate and our key priorities are promoting sustainability in the markets in which we operate," explains Cleaver.
