Capita Hartshead is among the employers introducing a volunteering initiative to its staff, which allows them to volunteer at a primary school in Sheffield.

The initiative, which will take place on 18 April, will ask children to record their ambitions, their hobbies, places they would like to visit and people they admire.

The employee volunteers will help create a vibrant display to promote respect, tolerance and understanding of different cultures in Sheffield.

It is a joint project between Culture Kids, South Yorkshire Police and Business in the Community. Capita Hartshead volunteers will be joined by several other staff from local employers.

Jill Houghton, events co-ordinator at Capita Hartshead, said: “I am sure I will learn a great deal about the communities that make up Sheffield, as well as helping the pupils to understand that fundamentally we are all the same and everyone has something to contribute."

Michelle Dickinson, community manager at Business in the Community, added: “Projects like this help children to look at difference, including colour, gender and religion, in a positive light. We want to explore these important and hard-hitting issues in a fun way.”
