Bupa is to give employees time during working hours to volunteer at charities close to its main call centres in Staines and Manchester.
Employees will be able to choose from more than 100 projects including refurbishing a respite centre, repairing broken fences and gardens at a school and revamping a Mencap care home. They are also encouraged to suggest causes of their own to work on. It is hoped that as well as helping in their local communities, the volunteering project will boost staff motivation, recruitment and retention.
Oke Eleazu, customer service and operations director for Bupa UK health insurance, said: "The project underlines our commitment to support the communities in which we work. It also gives our staff the opportunity to build team spirit and develop skills such as problem solving and public speaking, which can be brought back into the workplace."
