The borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to pay all staff, regardless of age, above the national living wage of £7.20 an hour.
From 1 April 2016, when the government is introducing its national living wage of £7.20 an hour for workers 25 and over, the borough of Windsor and Maidenhead will pay all employees £7.26.
Around 11 members of staff will be affected by this increase, which in some cases will result in a gain of up to 28p per hour, but most will gain 10p.
This pay rate will be kept under review.
Councillor Simon Dudley, cabinet member for finance for the borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, said: “We are keen to ensure that all our employees receive a fair rate of pay and we wanted to go further than the government’s recommendation to recognise the higher cost of living in the Royal Borough.
"We feel this level of pay will make a real difference to those who receive it and reflects the hard work our staff put in.
The increase in pay for apprentices reinforces our commitment to young people and in particular their training and education. We want to encourage as many young people as possible to take up apprenticeships which will allow them to gain valuable training and skills while also receiving a wage.”
