BI has permitted its employees to spend a day out of the office to volunteer at a local school.

This was in response to the results of an employee survey, which showed that staff at the communication and motivation company wanted the opportunity to give something back to the local community.

BI chose an under-funded school five miles from its offices, and 120 of its employees set about trying to help make improvements. In one day, staff painted classrooms, revamped its gardens and created a nature trail. The company also donated funds to re-fit the school's library and to provide a new stage.

Richard Bandell, BI's managing director, said: "In addition to being in line with our corporate responsibility policy, it was a valuable business exercise. In business everyone needs to collaborate and co-operate in order for us all to succeed, and during this project associates came together from many different departments to work together to achieve a common goal."
