Winner: The Random House Group - Our House

This award recognises the steps taken by employers to help employees achieve a strong work-life balance, whether they are working parents, carers or employees who want to balance their work and personal lives better.

The Random House Group takes a proactive approach to encouraging all its workforce to obtain a good work-life balance. Its strategy, which is promoted and led from the top down, has had some impressive results, including a rise in the number of new mothers returning to work after maternity leave and a significant increase in the number of employees who feel able to obtain a good work-life balance.

The organisation’s innovative initiatives include baby packs and summer working hours for 87% of its workforce.

The judges said: “Random House knew its workforce, knew the challenges they had and what it implemented was bang on. It had a clear strategy and good objectives.”

The winner said: “We have a 70% female population and had unique challenges around our returners after maternity leave. That has been the main driver of our strategy.” Neil Morrison, HR director, The Random House Group
