Wheelies Direct Cycle Solutions announces 250% rise in turnover

Wheelies Direct Cycle Solutions, a leading UK operator of cycle-to-work schemes, has announced a turnover of £2.8 million. This is a 250% rise over the course of less than a year. Turnover is expected to grow to over £4.2 million in 2009.

More than 200 employers have signed up for cycle-to-work schemes in 2009, including the Football Association, the Royal Opera House, the Eden Project, Formula One Racing and BMW.

Cycle Solutions believes the credit crunch is driving a boom in cycling as more workers opt to cycle to work to try to save money. Steve Edgell, managing director, commented: “Commuters who are opting to leave the car or the bus behind in favour of a bicycle make up probably the fastest-growing group of cyclists on the roads of towns and cities right across the UK.”

Cycle Solutions reports that during 2008 more than 8,000 employees were persuaded to cycle to work due to the availability of subsidised cycling equipment and the long-term ‘cash in the pocket’ savings gained on transport bills.
