TUI Travel is launching an employee assistance programme (EAP) for staff in the UK and Ireland as part of efforts to support them through difficult times.
The travel and leisure firm plans to launch the EAP, provided by PPC, in February across its workforce of around 18,000 employees.
As part of the package of group risk benefits TUI Travel offers, which is provided by Legal and General, the EAP will provide employees with telephone and face-to-face counselling, as well as online questionnaires to help them assess their state of mind.
When the EAP is introduced, it will become part of TUI Travel’s integrated approach to healthcare, which is designed to link up is healthcare providers, so an employee in contact with one is informed of the services of another if necessary. For example, an employee contacting an EAP may also be able address their problem by using the private medical insurance (PMI) policy.
Tim Taylor, head of reward and recognition at TUI Travel UK and Ireland, said: “An EAP is probably something that has been missing from our overall portfolio. It is part and parcel of our integrated health approach. We provide [income protection] and PMI [for some staff] but [the EAP] obviously provides support across all employees through those more difficult times.
“If a particular issue comes up through the EAP, it can be flagged to the company that is supporting us in terms of our integrated approach and it can see whether there is an alternative route for support."
