Total pay, including bonuses, increased by 2.1% between November 2014-January 2015 and November 2015-January 2016, according to research by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Its UK labour market: March 2016 report also found that regular pay, excluding bonuses, increased by 2.2% in the three months to January 2016 compared to the three months in January 2015. This compares to growth of 2% in regular pay between the three months to December 2014 and the three months to December 2015.
Adjusted for inflation, both regular pay and total pay increased by 2% between November 2014-January 2015 and November 2015-January 2016.
Average regular pay for January 2016, excluding bonuses, was £467 a week before tax and other deductions, compared to £457 in January 2015.
Average total pay for employees in Great Britain in January 2016, inclusive of bonuses, was £497 a week, compared to £485 in January 2015.
Doug Monro, co-founder of jobsite Adzuna, said: “The economic recovery may be slowing down, but the jobs market is defying this trend and moving forwards. Employment levels are rising more quickly than anticipated and unemployment continues to shrink. Wages, have been slower to respond, but we may be starting to see an acceleration in earnings.”
