Scottish Parliament staff have accepted a two-year pay deal for 2016-2018.

Employees who are members of Prospect, the trade union that represents specialist staff at Holyrood, such as researchers, clerks and official reporters, have agreed upon the deal.

The pay deal will see employees at the maximum end of their pay scale receive a 2% pay increase, as well as an increase of 1% in addition to progression. The increases will be worth at least 4.5% for staff below the maximum of their pay scale.

The agreed pay deal also includes a commitment to the Scottish living wage, an increase in public holidays and no compulsory redundancies over the timespan of the agreement.

David Avery, negotiator at Prospect, said: “The parliament has recognised the hard work of its staff throughout the independence referendum, Smith Commission and now the Scotland bill, and awarded them a fair pay deal."

A Scottish Parliament spokesperson added: “In negotiating this pay offer, the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body's (SPCB’s) priority was to achieve a pay reward that was fair, affordable and sustainable within the context of our budget.”
