Banking organisation Santander has increased its minimum hourly wage to $15 (£10.53) an hour for 1,500 US-based employees.
The pay increase, effective from 17 March 2018, will apply for both full and part-time staff. The majority of affected employees work at Santander bank branches and call centres, based in north-east US.
Scott Powell, chief executive officer at Santander US, said: "Our people are our greatest asset. We have a long standing commitment to investing in our employees and paying them fairly and competitively. They are on the front lines every day working to build strong, lasting relationships with our customers and I am pleased to be able to reward them for their dedication and hard work."
