Sanctuary Group staff collectively donated around 85 hours to volunteering on national Give and Gain Day on 17 May.

Employees from the housing and care provider took part in a variety of projects, including: repainting a community centre on the Kingsmead Estate in Hackney, London; transforming green areas around the Shiregreen Estate in Sheffield, where Sanctuary manages around 2,500 homes; serving meals and refreshments to visitors at a drop-in centre in Plymouth; and tending to the grounds at a day centre in the heart of Worcester.

The Give and Gain Day projects ties in with Sanctuary Group’s own employee volunteering scheme, which was launched in January 2013.

The scheme was developed as part of the organisation’s commitment to employee development and gives staff the opportunity to volunteer for placements in its different business streams and with partnering organisations.

Amanda Gonsalves, director of HR at Sanctuary Group, said: “Sanctuary is committed to working closely with its local communities so Give and Gain Day has provided us with the perfect opportunity to support even more neighbourhood initiatives.

“Not only have some of our employees donated their time to provide help where it is needed most, they have also been able to share their knowledge and expertise with others and gain valuable new skills.”
