Something for the weekend: An online advertisement for a cat sitter role has gone viral after people noticed the high pay and bizarre description and requirements.

Felicity Abbott, owner of recruitment firm Found by Felicity, posted a video on TikTok about the advert after discovering it on the Guardian Jobs website, which quickly gained a lot of attraction.

Located in Covent Garden, London, the description of the job’s daily requirements and tasks were interesting, to say the least. Abbott started the video by saying that this was the funniest job advert she had ever seen, before explaining the details.

“So this is for a cat sitter in London, up to £65 an hour, part-time or full-time. The client is a British shorthair cat, so you’re going to be looking after this cat. So, consistent attention for the cat, providing them with fresh milk and food daily,” she said, before pointing out that cats are lactose intolerant.

“Groom them, and every Friday you’re going to play them classical music in the office. Once a month, you’re also going to visit Harrods to buy toys for the cat. So for £65 an hour, you can basically play piano to a cat and go shopping. This cat has a better life than most people!” she quipped.

Fellow TikTok users took to the comment section of the video, with one user saying: “Professional pet sitter here! Most won’t even pay £6 a visit.”

A second user said: “That’s ridiculous, where do I apply?”, while another pointed out: “They’re rich enough for their cat to have its own butler.”

Another person said: “I would travel for this job, like willing to do a two-hour commute”, while another user wrote: “Just redid my CV and cover letter to find out they’ve closed the listing, it was supposed to close on 7 June.”

However, one user, who owned a British shorthair who only drank Evian, stated that these requirements were understandable.

This sounds like an amusing, if somewhat lucrative, job advert to us! If you’re a fan of cats, classical music and shopping, it could be right up your street…
