Air travel organisation Delta Air Lines is awarding its 90,000 employees with a cash bonus equivalent to two months' pay, following the strong business performance in 2019.
Employees will receive the bonus through the organisation's profit sharing scheme, which is open to all global staff who are full-time, part-time or ready reserves. All eligible employees are enrolled on the same profit sharing plan and receive the same payout percentage of 16.6%, regardless of team, seniority or location.
Delta Air Lines announced on 14 January 2020 that it will, in total, be paying out $1.6 billion (£1.2 billion); this is the highest profit sharing pool in the organisation's history, and the sixth year in a row in which it has paid out upwards of $1 billion (£762 million).
The news was shared with employees via an internal memo, and the 16.6% cash payout, based on an individual's base pay, will be awarded on 14 February 2020.
The profit sharing benefit is part of Delta Air Lines' commitment to sharing the organisation's success each year with staff, recognising employees' key role in advancing the business.
Ed Bastian, chief executive officer at Delta Air Lines, said: “2019 was a truly outstanding year on all fronts; the best in Delta’s history operationally, financially and for our customers. Our people, and their commitment to bringing best-in-class travel experiences to our 200 million customers, are the foundation for our success. I’m pleased to recognise their outstanding performance with a record $1.6 billion in profit sharing for 2019."
On Linkedin, Bastian added: "Delta would be nothing without our 90,000 people. They deserve all the credit."
