A review by the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) will look at employee share schemes.

The agreed terms of reference for the review are included in a letter published on 13 July by David Gauke, exchequer secretary for the OTS.

The employee share schemes project will initially examine the four tax-advantaged or government-approved share schemes to identify complexities and unnecessary administrative burdens on their users, and to suggest ways they could be simplified.

The OTS will go on to look at unapproved share schemes later in 2012.
