Something for the weekend: Employees looking for the best place to live for the best work-life balance need look no further than the fair city of St Albans, according to a new study.
Research conducted by CoworkingCafe ranked the nation’s best cities for work-life balance and mental health and found that St Albans came out top for factors including life satisfaction (7.97/10), high median income (£47,641 pa) and high share of remote workers (53%).
The snapshot of the cities was ranked according to residents’ self-evaluations on several mental health indicators, in addition to quantifiable environmental, economic and cultural factors including work hours, the adoption rate of remote work, and the accessibility of green spaces.
Also scoring highly were Sevenoaks for the highest happiness score of 7.89/10, and Gloucester for the lowest anxiety score of 2.46/10.
If the shortest average work week is high on an employee’s priority list, then Cambridge is the place to be with an average of 37.4 hours.
Our nation’s capital of London ranked 37th overall because of its extreme highs and lows of robust incomes and remote work adoption, but expensive housing and limited private green spaces.
As we head towards shorter days and colder weather, we at Employee Benefits might consider upping sticks for the home counties, all in the name of finding that elusive work-life balance.
