University-of-Winchester

The University of Winchester will run a pilot programme involving 950 employees to encourage behaviour change around staff health and sustainability.

The Jump programme, provided by Green Rewards, will launch in September for a four-month pilot period. The programme will encourage employees to take part in and engage with various wellbeing and sustainability initiatives in order to gain rewards, such as high street shopping vouchers, park and ride tickets, gym passes for the university’s fitness facility, and prize money that can be donated to chosen local charities.

The initiatives featured in the programme will focus on energy use, waste and recycling, food and drink, volunteering, sustainable transport, and employee health and wellbeing. Specific measures that will be promoted include using the park and ride scheme, taking lunch breaks outside, taking part in the staff sports scheme, recycling, utilising a ‘last one out’ energy saving check list, switching off unused lights and electronics, travelling sustainably, and using reusable cups rather than disposable ones.

Employees will be able to monitor their progress and the changes they have made via an online platform.

The programme will be communicated to staff via monthly email newsletters, which will highlight good practice, give feedback on the energy savings made, and recognise employees who are being rewarded for their actions.

Liz Harris, environmental projects assistant at the University of Winchester, said: “The University is committed to environmental sustainability and enhancing staff wellbeing. We are keen to encourage all employees to undertake positive activities to achieve these objectives and value the fresh, interactive approach of the Jump programme. We’re really looking forward to implementing Jump here at Winchester and can’t wait to see the results.”
