More than 300,000 UK employees have been automatically enrolled in to a workplace pension scheme in the first six months of pensions auto-enrolment, according to The Pensions Regulator (TPR)’s first registration report.
TPR will publish these updates on a monthly basis, derived from information submitted by employers when they register, which is supplemented by annual reports, including additional analysis and commentary.
This first registration report covers the period from July 2012 to the end of March 2013.
The report shows that 84 employers have confirmed to TPR that they have met their duties by registering during the period.
These 84 organisations employ a total of 2,149,000 employees, which include:
- 308,000 eligible jobholders who have been auto-enrolled into a workplace pension scheme.
- 1,231,000 employees who were already active members of a qualifying scheme at their organisation’s staging date.
- 117,000 eligible jobholders who have had a defined benefit (DB) or hybrid scheme transitional agreement applied to them.
- 493,000 employees who do not fall into the above categories.
