This week’s blog is a bit of a different one for me as it will be my last – for some time at least. From next week, I will be heading off on maternity leave to start a new chapter in my life.

I think it’s fair to say that the last few months have been a real eye opener for me, particularly when it comes to gaining first-hand experience of some of the benefits, policies and practices that we at Employee Benefits regularly cover. There’s a very real difference between the theory of offering initiatives such as flexible-working practices, and what these mean in practice for the employees taking advantage of them.

And, when I return in a year’s time, I’ll have the world of childcare-related benefits to navigate, whatever that may look like following the changes due to take place later this year.

While I’m away, I’ll be leaving Employee Benefits in the excellent hands of Kavitha Sivasubramaniam, who some of you may know from her time as Editor of Pay and Benefits magazine. She has a vast wealth of experience in and knowledge of the benefits industry, so is well placed to lead Employee Benefits through whatever the next year may bring.

Given the speed at which change can happen in this industry, it will be interesting to see just how much takes place while I’m immersed in nappies and sleepless nights.

See you in a year!
