Package holiday provider Jet2holidays has awarded its employees an 8% pay rise to be followed by a further £1,000 bonus at the end of the summer.

The announcement was made in the business’ preliminary unaudited results report for the year ended 31 March 2022, in which it stated that it had trimmed annual operating losses by 4% to £323.9 million for the 12 months to the end of March.

According to the report, Jet2holidays was able to give the increase and bonus to staff due to a well‐capitalised balance sheet, having retained much of its pre‐Covid-19 workforce.

The report explained that the business appreciates its workers’ support and efforts over recent months, achieved despite challenging airport, onboard and in-destination working environments.

Philip Meeson, executive chairman at Jet2holidays, said: “Inevitably, these customer-facing challenges have put extra pressure on our colleagues, both in the UK, onboard our aircraft and in our holiday destinations. This difficult return to normal operations has occurred simply because of the lack of planning, preparedness and unwillingness to invest by many airports and associated suppliers.

“As a result, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays management colleagues have worked hard to fully involve themselves in our operations and to ensure that our staff are supported, encouraged, rewarded and properly appreciated. We sincerely thank all our colleagues for the support they have given and are giving our business and our customers at this, regrettably, very challenging time.”
