H&M Group UK has reported an 8.06% mean gender pay gap for fixed hourly pay.

The H&M Group UK is part of the H&M brand, which comprises eight entities: H&M, COS, & Other Stories, Cheap Monday, Weekday, H&M Home, Monki and Arket. It employs 9,907 employees in the UK arm of the flagship brand, with 78% of the workforce female (7,746 employees) and 2,161 male.

The organisation has reported its gender pay data in line with the government’s gender pay gap reporting regulations, ahead of the private sector submission deadline of 4 April 2018.

Gender pay gap reporting regulations require organisations with 250 or more employees to publish the difference between both the mean and median hourly rate of pay for male and female full-time employees; the difference between both the mean bonus pay and median bonus pay for male and female employees; the proportions of male and female employees who were awarded bonus pay; and the proportions of male and female full-time employees in the lower, lower middle, upper middle and upper quartile pay bands.

H&M Group UK’s median gender pay gap for fixed hourly pay as at 5 April 2017 is 3.94%.

Its mean gender pay gap for bonuses paid in the year to 5 April 2017 is 27.52%, and the median gender pay gap for bonus payments is 30%. The number of employees that are paid bonuses is relatively low; over this period, 1.24% of female employees received a bonus payment compared to 1.2% of male employees.

Just under three-quarters (74.32%) of employees in the highest pay quartile at H&M Group UK are female, compared to 75.78% in the second quartile, 75.89% in the third quartile and 86.76% in the lowest pay quartile.

H&M Group UK is committed to treating all of its employees equally and the organisation has undertaken a number of steps to put this into practice. The organisation is currently conducting a salary review with a benchmarking organisation to ensure that there are no large pay gaps between employees undertaking the same role, which is due for completion in April 2018.

The organisation has also launched its first apprenticeship scheme for 2018 and is actively supporting working mothers who are to returning to work on a flexible basis.
