APCOA Parking traffic wardens have been awarded a sick pay policy and the London living wage to avert strike action.

The Hackney-based traffic warden firm did not previously offer a workplace sick pay policy, with members only entitled to statutory sick pay.

The deal, which follows talks at the conciliation service Acas, will mean that all staff will be entitled to sick pay of 15 days over a rolling year.

The London living wage will be introduced with immediate effect and backdated to November 2014, along with a 1.5% pay increase.

The firm has also committed to increasing traffic warden pay every November in line with annual increases to the London living wage. The London living wage rate currently stands at £9.40 an hour.

The 30 employees, members of trade union Unite who previously staged two days of strike action in August, will vote on the new deal at a meeting on 10 November.
