Financial services organisation GoCompare has enhanced its parental leave policies for its 240 employees based in South Wales.
The new policies, effective from 25 April 2018, enable eligible employees who wish to take maternity leave, shared parental leave or adoption leave to receive up to nine months of leave at full pay. The organisation's previous arrangement allowed parents to take three months of leave at full pay, followed by a further three at half pay.
The paternity policy has also been improved, providing fathers and secondary caregivers with up to four weeks of leave at full pay. Fathers are also able to have flexibility regarding their use of the additional two weeks of their leave. Previously, GoCompare’s paternity policy enabled eligible employees to take up to two weeks of leave at full pay.
The amended parental policies are based on the information gathered from an investigative parenting workshop, which was held with existing and prospective parents at GoCompare. The workshop, organised by the company's diversity and inclusion committee, aimed to discover and understand what mattered to its parent and parent-to-be employee population.
Alex Currie, HR director at GoCompare, said: “This is the first step in a number of changes that we will be making to our policies and procedures as part of our wider diversity and inclusion strategy.
“We have always firmly believed that our business is built on the capabilities and commitment of our people, and in return for their hard work and creativity we want to provide them with the best workplace possible. This process never ends of course, and we’re always looking for new ways to make GoCompare the place to be for meaningful and rewarding careers.”
