London Fire Brigade has raised £6,400 for The Fire Fighters Charity through its bikes-for-work scheme.
Its provider Cycle Solutions made a donation to the charity based on the number of bikes ordered. Since the scheme was launched in July 2012, 900 bikes have been ordered.
The scheme will be re-launched in February 2013.
Simon Bampfylde, Bikes 4 Work co-ordinator at the London Fire Brigade, said: “We have been really pleased by the positive take-up of the scheme and are delighted that the charity has also benefited by the generous donation.
“As well as helping keep people fit, cycling is a fast, cheap and reliable way for our staff to get to work, and is good for the environment too.”
Kevin Biles, sales manager at The Fire Fighters Charity, said: “It’s fantastic that this scheme not only benefits the brigade and the health and wellbeing of its staff who cycle to work, but it also raises vital funds and awareness for our charity.”
Steve Edgell, director at Cycle Solutions, added: “We are really pleased to be able to support the great work undertaken by The Fire Fighters Charity.
“Hopefully, by helping to provide bicycles and equipment for the charity’s rehabilitation centres, we can play a small part in getting injured fire fighters back to full health and fitness.”
