Editor’s comment
The 2011 Employee Benefits Awards saw the gathering of the great and the good of the employee benefits industry. Over 600 benefits and human resources managers, along with their consultants, advisers and providers, gathered at The Artillery Garden at the HAC in London. Besides being entertained by the wonderful Stephen Mangan (of Green Wing and Episodes fame), guests were treated to a superb lunch and all the fun of the fair(ground).
The main purpose of this summer party was to celebrate the best in benefits and present awards in 20 categories plus a Grand Prix. This year’s entries were rich with innovative ideas and both winners and runners up are well worth emulating. Once again, we chose the Samaritans as our charity partner. We do this because of the training this charity gives HR managers to help them communicate with employees dealing with tough issues such as stress and traumatic events. This year, awards entrants donated (in lieu of an entry fee) £8,755 to the Samaritans.
As you will see in the following few pages, everyone had a great time:
“Congrats and thanks to you for putting on a great show. It really is one of the top industry events on the calendar!” – Breckon Jones, director of healthy living, EMEA&C at American Express.
“Lovely to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones and hear the latest in our field, and the fairground was a great idea – benefits people are obviously all mad stunt drivers at heart!” – Janet Mckenzie, head of HR at MIB Group.
“Thanks to the EB team for putting on such a fantastic event. The awards ceremony was great – it helped that we won an award, of course – the food was delicious, and we had a blast at the after-party funfair.” – Debra Corey, senior director compensation and benefits EMEA at Quintiles.
“The setting was a huge improvement on previous years. Never did I anticipate tearing round in a dodgem car after our private healthcare account manager – superb fun!” – Neal Blackshire, benefits and compensation manager at McDonald’s Restaurants.
“I think that was the best Awards you’ve produced to date. A great venue, good host, lovely atmosphere and deserving winners.” – Simon Bleach, regional marketing director, benefits at Towers Watson.
“It was a fantastic event, made even better by winning two of the awards, including the Grand Prix. To be honest, I’m still in a state off shock about that!”
– Ant Donaldson, senior specialist – employee benefits UK HR at E.On.
