EXCLUSIVE: Deloitte has hosted a day of healthy heart checks for its employees to coincide with World Heart Day on 29 September.

The event, which was run by Roodlane Medical, included cholesterol and glucose tests, blood pressure checks and nutrition advice.

It was available to the firm’s 6,000 London-based employees.

The event is part of Deloitte’s employee engagement and wellbeing agenda, which is branded as Well Now. Events are held on a quarterly basis, with the first part of each year dedicated to nutrition, the second to fitness and lifestyle, the third to men’s and women’s health, and the last to mind and body resilience.

In September, Deloitte will also host two seminars, one on women’s health and the other on men’s health. The women’s seminar is on gynecological and reproductive health, and has already had 98 employees sign up.

While the wellbeing events are often held at the firm’s London offices, the other 6,000 employees across the UK can join in via webinar.

The events are communicated to staff through the company intranet, via posters and on digital screens in the break-out areas.

Sagan Dhallu, employee engagement advisor at Deloitte, said: “For each one we will campaign all around that subject area. It is about creating awareness and educating employees about their health and lifestyle, and encouraging them to use the facilities at Deloitte.”

The firm’s other health and wellbeing benefits include:

  • An onsite health clinic, which includes GPs, dentists, physiotherapists, a chiropractor, podiatrist, masseuse and optometrist.
  • Full-time occupational health service.
  • An onsite gym at its office in London and in Reading.

“Our workforce is very conscious of their health and wellbeing,” says Dhallu. “The key thing for me is, yes, that people come to the event, but it is also about actually trying to help employees make positive lifestyle changes.”
