Marcus-Underhill

Last week, all of us here at Employee Benefits were shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Marcus Underhill.

When I first met Marcus not long after joining Employee Benefits 14 years ago, he was introduced to me as one of the pioneers of flexible benefits in the UK. I don’t think anyone could dispute that his reputation as one of the leading thinkers in the benefits industry, both in the UK and overseas, was well-deserved.

We last collaborated on several projects earlier this year – the Employee Benefits/Staffcare Benefits research 2017 and Employee Benefits Wired: Supporting Financial Wellbeing – in his capacity as director of engagement and insights at Staffcare. On both occasions, his enthusiasm and ideas of how we could further each discussion were seemingly limitless.

The number of tributes we have seen paid throughout the industry over the past few days is testimony to his reputation, both on a personal and professional level. There is no doubt, his loss will be greatly felt.

Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this time.
